This really spoke to me and reminded me of when I was first realizing my identity as a trans* person. I was dating someone at the time, and we were in a lesbian relationship. So, telling her that I may want to try a different name, pronouns, or relationship titles was really difficult for me. At the end of the day, labels are for our comfort, so that we feel comfortable and at home when discussing our relationships and the ways in which we interact with those we love. The terms we use don’t have to make sense to anyone who isn’t involved. They just have to feel right, and it’s okay if those words don’t exist yet. It’s okay to resort to neologisms. As long as you and the person(s) involved are all cool with it, they’re your lives.
